Maui 2017

Maui 2017

We LOVE Maui! When we pick a place to travel to we often have specific goals for the trip, to relax, to be in the ocean, to explore, to escape the grind… Maui hits them all! Maui was one of the first bigger trips we took together and we will probably try to go every year for as long as we can haha.

FLIGHTS: we have used miles, our BOGO flight deal with our Alaska Airlines Card, and also just paid straight out for flights when the prices get low. We bring our own food on the flights to save money too.

WHERE WE STAY: Our favorite part of Maui is the Lahaina/Napili area. We have stayed with family on the island before (thanks Auntie Pat!) and have plans to stay at THIS Airbnb in Lahaina. Usually the hotels are SO expensive, so we try to take the more reasonably priced route.

FAVORITE BEACHES: Napili and Baby Beach in Lahaina. For snorkeling we love the cove right around the corner from Napili beach and also Wahikuli Wayside Park, both have SO MANY TURTLES!

THINGS TO DO: We love to be in the water as much as possible. So snorkeling at various beaches is our go to! We carry our snorkel gear around wherever we go.

The Road to Hana is magical. Don’t let people talk you out of going just for the windy roads. It’s one of the most beautiful secluded places we’ve ever seen. We brought the book Maui Revealed with us so we could get to waterfalls, swimming holes, red sand beach, black sand beach and much more. There is no cell service or signs. Just mile markers. So getting the book is helpful to navigate to all the hidden spots. It can definitely be done in one day, but it would be an all day adventure. We have also tent camped overnight at Waianapanapa State Park to break up the trip and it was wonderful!

Paia is also a really cute little hippy town on the north/east side of the island. It’s a great stop on the way to Hana.

FOOD: Every time we’ve stayed at Maui, we’ve had a kitchen. We stop at Costco (right by the airport) to stock up and then cook mostly at home. But when we do eat out, we head to Front Street in downtown Lahaina, there are lots of yummy places. We also love the happy hour at the Barefoot Bar in Whalers Village (good to get your parking validated at if you plan to visit Kaanapali). But above everything, we LOVE LOVE LOVE Choice Health Bar in Lahaina, Whaler’s Village & Paia.
