Mendocino, CA 2017
Talk about weekend trips, Mendocino/Fort Bragg is the perfect getaway. Emily’s grandparents & aunts live in the area so we try to go up frequently. Mendocino is a stunning small town vibe on the west coast of California….about 2 hours north from Sonoma County where we live.
This particular trip was quick and packed with various fun things…
Canoeing! We rented a canoe and paddled along the river for a couple hours. It was stunning but we also went in the middle of winter and it was very cold and didn’t last too long. haha. But it was worth it!
Glass Beach! There is a particular beach in Fort Bragg that used to be a dumping ground for glass recycling years and years ago. There used to be barely any sand and just TONS of little pieces of glass that have been smoothed over by the waves. Giving the beach the name Glass Beach. But years have gone by and it’s been a very touristy spot and most of the glass is gone thanks to tourist who have collected it and taken it home. But if you’re lucky, you’ll still find some glass mixed in the sand. It’s a beautiful thing. It’s still worth going to visit! Dig around and go in some less trafficked areas to find more glass.
Beach! Some of our favorite beaches are Big River, the bluffs off of downtown Mendocino, Jefferson’s Way, and the boardwalk in Fort Bragg starting at Glass Beach!
Coffee! Our favorite coffee stops are Headlands Coffeehouse & Goodlife Cafe.
Food! Mendocino Cafe, Harvest at Mendozas, Little River Inn, & GG’s Thai Cafe.
Mendocino & Fort Bragg have a slow place, hippy, and friendly vibe. The water is freezing, but the bluffs are great for whale watching! There is an amazing presence of ocean conservation in this town too (check out the Noyo Center!).
