Balboa Island, CA 2016

Balboa Island a man made island is located in Southern California and is one of Emily’s favorite places in the world. Emily’s extended family owns a beach house on the island, so they have the privilege of vacationing there every year. But we love to sneak down there any chance we get!

Where We Stay: on a beach house on Balboa Island. Or with family in the area. But there are fabulous beach houses & hotels near by. If you want to visit Balboa Island, you can easily stay in Newport Beach and drive on the island everyday.

Favorite Places to Eat: Ruby’s Diner (located at the end of the Balboa Pier) Dori’s Deli, Wilma’s Patio, The Crab Cooker, BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse, and Nekter Juice Bar. But we usually shop at Trader Joe’s in Irvine and the Pavilions right off the island in Newport Beach so we can cook at home.

Things To Do: If you’re visiting and want to experience some fun touristy things. Corona Del Mar Beach is wonderful and it’s just a short 5 minute drive from the island. The surf is protected by the jetty, so it’s not too rough and great for kids.

The Newport Coastal Adventure is a wonderful marine life watching tour that leaves from the Newport side of the Bay. It’s a 2 hour boat tour that takes you to view whales, dolphins, and sea lions!

Simply walking around Balboa Island is iconic. So many beautiful views in every direction.

Taking the ferry across from Balboa Island to the Newport side is really fun as well. You can go as passengers or take your car on! From there, plenty of things are in walkable distance, including BJ’s Resturant, Ruby’s Diner on the Pier, The Fun Zone, and much more.
